An error occurred during activation. Error: 0x80072f8f
Cause
The root certificates in the Windows trust store are not up to date. This happens because the operating system is no longer supported and new root certificate updates are no longer provided by Microsoft.
Solution
Upgrade the operating system to Windows 10 or higher. If this is not possible, manually install the root certificate:
- Browse to https://x1.i.lencr.org in order to download the .der file for ISRG Root X1.
- Right-click the "ISRG Root X1.der" file, and select Install Certificate
- For the store location, select Local Machine
- Choose default option Automatically select...
- Next
- Finish
- The ISRG Root X1 certificate will now be visible using certmgr.msc under Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
- Reboot machine
