Install directory must be on a local hard drive

Problem

If you try to install the application you get an error that says "Install directory must be on a local hard drive".

Solution

  1. Download SmartFTP.msi
  2. Remember the complete path where the SmartFTP.msi file has been saved
  3. Go to the Windows start menu
  4. Type Command Prompt
  5. Right-click the Command Prompt from the search results
  6. Select Run as administrator in the context menu
  7. In the command prompt, type:
    msiexec /i "path to SmartFTP.msi" /qn
    For example:
    msiexec /i "%userprofile%\Downloads\SmartFTP.msi" /qn
  8. SmartFTP is now installed and you can start it from the desktop shortcut
