I used to be able to rename remote files/folders using the right-click context menu or by selecting the file/folder and pressing F2. In SmartFTP 3 this no longer works -- the file loses its blue background highlight but retains a dotted outline; it does not enter the filename edit mode.
My cumbersome workaround is to rename files locally, upload them, and then delete the original on the remote server. If I want to create a new file or folder on the remote server, I have to create it locally first, rename it locally, and then transfer it.
