problem with portable version

hi!

i've just purchased smartftp v3 home, and i wanted to use it as a portable app on my usb-drive.
i followed the instructions stated here: Portable SmartFTP (kb) but the the following problems occur:

• no settings i make are remembered (eg. open local window; settings done for promts; ...)
• if i close it, the PortableSmartFTP.exe and some background processes remain running
• no localization is done (i want(ed) to use the german localization)

i use windows vista ultimate (german) 32bit - do you need any further information?

maybe someone can help me?

Hello ..

The portable version is not officially supported (it is provided as is) because SmartFTP is not designed to run on a portable drive. I think it's the same reason you cannot run MS Word etc on a portable drive.
Nevertheless the settings still should be saved. You mentioned that background processes are running. What do you mean specifically? The problem with the localization is related to the problem with the settings.

i can't tell u which processes keep running, but when i try to kill the "PortableSmartFTP.exe", i get the messages that there is at last one process running behind this process-structur (sorry, if this is not the correct term, but i just translated it from the german word) and the kill wasn't processed...

is there any plan that smartftp is ported into/to a portable version in the futur?

The source code for the portable wrapper is included in the zip file. If you want you can do some modifications and compile it with AutoIt. For example I would start removing some regsvr.exe /u ... commands at the end.

There are no plans to release an official portable version of SmartFTP because it just doesn't work well with applications using COM objects or shell extensions.
