It would be cool and useful if SmartFTP automatically optimized CSS, XHTML, and JavaScript files by taking out unnecessary white space and gziping them before uploading (temporary files, keep the originals intact).

Sure, and would also be great if SmartFTP could scan for viruses, defragment the hard disk and cook coffee ... but it probably never will

Well, if the ftp server allows MODE Z SmartFTP does something like that.
