connection attempt failed

I had a virus and had to re-install all my software including smartFTP and the ZoneAlarm firewall. It always worked fine before so I know I have the correct address, login, and password.

When signing on I get...

"A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. Client closed the connection."

Not sure what to check for, any suggestions?

Hi, try uninstalling the firewall software and try to connect to ftp://ftp.smartftp.com if it works try to download again Tiny Firewall from official website.

I have the same issue running winXP home ( SP2 fully patched ) also running Avast AV software.

If turn off the firewall it works. The exceptions list for the firewall has SmartFTP checked so it should work with the firewall turned and yet it does not.

any thoughts ?
