Problems Connecting to my FTP Site using Smart FTP (only!)

I just got a new FTP site. However, I have problems logging in using SmartFTP, I get authentication errors. Other programs (e.g. cuteFTP) works fine. Note that I am using the IP address to log in.

Here is the error:

220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [TLS] ----------
220-You are user number 3 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 23:05. Server port: 21.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
USER xxxx
331 User xxxx OK. Password required
PASS (hidden)

The user/password you entered is obviously wrong.

Obviously the other FTP programs do not have this problem. Only SmartFTP... (I am using the same User name and password in all programs).
and Yes, I have checked and double and tripple checked..

Nope. Very simple: 5 char for UserID & 11 char for password.
I used the same ID & PW with another FTP site w/o problems. Only have problems with this FTP site + SmartFTP together.

Unforutnately it doesn't make sense. Try to copy&paste the FTP url in the following form:
ftp://user:pass@host.com

You may need to select "SSL Explicit" instead of "Normal" mode in the protocol selection in the address bar.

Maybe you are connecting to the wrong server, etc.
