I have a problem with my desktop PC, a large new machine running Win XP Home and the latest McAfee package.
Suddenly from some weeks ago I could not any longer FTP to/from neither my own websites, nor any other website. It doesn't matter which FTP program I try (I have WS_FTP95 too). E-mail and normal Internet browser use works perfectly.
From my laptop PC with the same software using the same 2 Mb/s ADSL connection, I can FTP without any problems.
I get two different messages:
Resolving host name "www.prc.dk"
Connecting to 212.242.40.82 Port: 21
Connected to www.prc.dk.
Timeout (20s).
Active Help: https://www.smartftp.com/support/kb/45
Client closed the connection.
or
Resolving host name "www.prc.dk"
Connecting to 212.242.40.82 Port: 21
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
Client closed the connection.
I have tried all the advices on the related Active help page (see above), incl. switching off the firewall, nothing helped. Windows firewall is of course switched off, too. I have checked the PC for viruses - it's clean.
It consequently looks like something in Windows is blocking the FTP function - could be damaged file.
Any ideas
