Im New to this ftp thing, i just install my program and how to get it to connect. when try to connect it says host is not known. do i need someone to host it or i can do myself. i have optimum online.

You need to know all the settings of the FTP server you want to connect to. Try e.g. ftp://ftp.smartftp.com/ using "anonymous" login.
