chmod problems (500)

hi there i searched around for the correct place but meh didnt find it so this is now the place.

i am trying to change the chmod on some of my files from 777 to 755, and come to think of it any orientation of chmod. after changing the chmod settings and clicking ok i get

'500 <chmod number> <file/folder> command not understood'

if anyone could help as to why this does this then please enlighten me :oops:

probably. it seems your server simply does not support chmod. this may very well be because chmod support is not an offical part of the ftp standard, but an "extension" used through the SITE command.
