wont run in shared modem connect

I was recomended smartftp to try to fix my ftp problems.But i still cant get a connection in my network if i am using the shared modem option?if i turn off the shared modem i can connect both setting both differnt ways have the same firewall settings and everthing just cant find the problem can any one help?
