can someone explain to me how to get around firewalls and routers using smartftp, or do these settings have to be applied through the server software eg. guilddftp..can someone point me to a tutoial or something 8O
Firewalls and routers are two different things.
Routers simply(?) forward IP (& other) packets from one network (segment) to another. Their operation is generally transparent to a user.
Firewall configuration is a bit of a black art as far as I'm concerned, but in essence you prevent packets coming in unless they're in response to one going out - and you only allow outgoing ones on specific ports. Others can surely tell you more about this than I, but which firewall are you struggling with?
