Are updates free when purchasing SFTP?

Yes, updates are free. It wouldn't be fair if it wasn't

If you buy a one year license, then updates are free for the whole entire duration of the year.

Then there is the 2-3 year maintenance license, which covers you for a longer period of time.

Sorry, what do you mean by saying a "one year license"? I think one year is only for maintenance, but I will still own the licence even after (eventually purchasing a new maintenance period, 30% licence price)...or after one year I will need a new licence to use sftp?

The license is valid forever. You can use SmartFTP as long as you want.
