Error Message & Doesn't Open

I have been using SmartFTP for two years and today I had a problem. The problem is that I receive an error when I try to open SmartFTP, see below;


SmartFTP.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

I'm not having problems with any other programs. I have rebooted, cleared all temp files, reinstalled and still doing same thing.

I have Windows 2000 Professional, Phone line DSL
Can anyone tell what may have caused this and how to fix it?

Try to use smartftp backup to delete all the files/registry keys of smartftp and reinstall.

Thank you for the direction but that didn't help either.
Just finished trying that and still have same problem .

I installed WS_FTP and it's working fine but I don't like it as well as SmartFTP.

I have cleaned all files and Temp file and disk cleaned as much as I can.

Any other suggestions.

Have you used smartftp backup to delete all the registry keys of smartftp and data files?

if yes, try to go to C:Documents and SettingsusernameApplication DataSmartFTP and delete all the files on that directory also use regedit to delete all smartftp keys on the registry.

Do you have instaled Tiny Personal Firewall v. 5.0? it crashes smartftp.

No, I use Norton and has been working fine.

I have it corrected now thanks to your help, "regedit to delete all smartftp keys" that did the job. I really appreciate the help.
