FXP

Your software seems to be very good.

I seldom used FTP, but lately that has changed significantly and I find I will need a good FTP client, especially now that I am required to do a lot of FXP transfers which I never did before.

Saying that, there seems to be a catch-22 with your software arrangement.

I can't use the feature that I need to use (FXP) without your support.

You don't support what is not paid for... which I can understand...

I can't pay for what I can't get to work... FXP... I hope you understand.

You may well decide not to reply to this as I am not yet unregistered... but I cannot use this software for FXP even though I have THOROUGHLY read the sections on FXP and cannot get it to work. I WILL register if it will work for me. Promise!

If it does, I will buy the software. If it doesn't because of some bug, I'll have to buy another brand I guess. If you DO have a bug in this part of your software, please just tell me now so I stop trying to make it work.

So I will now just ask my question and perhaps if you cannot or will not answer it, you can at least give me the email address of someone who can or tell me if it is a bug. I am using version 1.0.978, Windows XP Pro

I have tried both methods of using FXP. Direct and Global.

The thing just hangs! I have tried passive mode plus changed a LOT of the setting to experiment. Nothing works. It begins to transfer the first file... then nothing. The destination server ALWAYS reads STOR and the connection to the destination ALWAYS reads WAITING.

I have set the threads higher/lower, the speed faster/slower. I have tried binary mode, ascii mode and auto. I have tried every combination I can think of in the settings!

I have run out of options.

If I download the files to my local drive and then upload them to the destination server, your software works GREAT.. but I am now faced with transferring TONS of files, and doing it that way is obviously twice the time.

If you can, please reply... if not, I understand the rules...

But I will also make this suggestion. FTP is not an intuitive tool to use considering all the settings available. Saying that, I think you should supply some sort of support to folks who DO wish to use SmartFTP but are caught up in the technical problems. Yes, you might get some moochers... but you might make more sales.

I posted this for assistance on the users helping users board and the only reply I got was a suggestion to view the appropriate movie, which I did. I followed the movie EXACTLY.

It still doesn't work.

If you got this far... thanks for reading it

Tim

Hello,

One of the two servers needs to support Pasv Mode, and both sites have to support FXP, FXP also needs to be enabled in the config. for both ends.

The only way to know for sure if both servers support FXP, ask the admins for both servers. If it's possible to FXP. (Site to site transfer).
If these servers are hosting sites, I can surely say they will not have this feature enabled. But some small hosting services will allow it though.

Post the log, from the log view pane, for both servers, when attempting to FXP, the whole log is not important.
Please don't forget to exclude the IP's from the log, unless they are internal IP's.

By the way, FXP does work on SmartFTP, and works very well.

One last thing, please read the following two articles:
