When I upload files to my web server (via satellite Internet), I can only get a throughput of about 1.6 kb per sec.
Most of the time I see email transmissions with a 2-3 meg attachment fly right along and take a minute or so. With FTP it takes almost 2 minutes to upload a 135kb file.
I know the propagation delay with satellite transmission is significant, but you can raise the window size in your application (number of packets sent at one time) as well as increase the number of bytes in each packet.
However, I can not find these kinds of controls to tweak in SmartFTP.
Does anybody have a suggestion or where I might go to get help?
Tnx!

Darix,
I looked at the one way satellites when they came out, but decided against it just for the reason you cite.
However, I have the Hughes 2way satellite and it performs pretty well. (Not a fast as the cute lady on Dtv shows....but 10-20 times faster than 56k dial.
Undoubedly my pipe is long, but it is a big diameter pipe. Once I start filling it, I should be able to shovel it full....unless the software is taking a packet....waiting for it to be acknowledged on the other end before releasing the next packet. I used to work in networking. I remember this problem because of a previous experience with a IT "guru" that was trying to run Netbios over my WAN between Charleston and Houston. NB is horribly chatty and not designed for the Wide Area Network environent.
So the problems is still out there....is there a way to increase FTP packet size and/or increase the number of packets sent (to fill up the pipe) before waiting on an acknowledgement from the other end?
Tnx!
