'abort' stopping task instead of disconnecting?

In a slow connection, it sometimes takes a while to even see what a directory contains. I know I don't want to use disconnect, because I want to do other things - like click on another folder. Is there another button, other than abort, that works better? Thanks

No there isn't. Abort is the only option.

Abort is the only way to stop a directory listing or transfer, besides -
"disconnect" or you can also close out the remote FTP server window.
