Error Moving File or Folder after download.

Problem:

After downloading a file, with SmartFTP still running (possibly connected to a different site), SmartFTP does not fully relinquish the file. If you try to move the file you get:

Error Moving File or Folder
Cannot move <filename>: It is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

The cause of that it's the preview of files of windows xp, nothing to do with smartftp.

Would it be possible to elaborate more on "caused by preview in Windows XP"? I have run into this situation quite often. The last time time I tried a reboot twice but still couldn't delete or move the file in question.

I had to finally boot into safe mode command prompt and manually delete it.

I thought it might have something to do with SmartFTP because this has happened more than a few times with large files I was downloading using SmartFTP.

Thank you.

No, it can't because it's as is. That is very common when you try to move a large avi file, and if the file is incomplete for sure you go to get that failure allways. A better way of workarround that is to use the Command Prompt to move that files.

The easiest way I move avi files, without being previewed, for MS WinXP won't give
me problems, will be by using the SmartFTP "Local Browser" feature to move them.

I do this all the time with the no problems at all, give it a try, it works great!

You have to disable the AVI preview "feature" of XP. The OS will always try to lock an AVI file to show it to you in a little window in Explorer, even if you turn that feature off! It's incredibly annoying.

To solve this problem all you have to do is the following:

1. Open up regedit

2. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTSystemFileAssociations.avishellexPropertyHandler

3. Delete the "Default" value which should be "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}"
