max transfer rate???

recently I had to transfer a 2 gig file at the office over the lan with smartftp. The transfer rate was maxed at 300k/s. Is that the max that this program allows? I tried using bluezone ftp and it was 6400+ k/s.

By the way, I have set the speed limits are set to 0k (unlimited) and buffer is 50.

The max transfer that i getted using smartftp over a 100 mbps lan is apx 12000 KB/s using 7200 rpm maxtor ata 133 ide hard drives.
The client operativ system too varies on the use of IO bufffer size.
For example for a windows 2003 server is 4 KB.
If you are using the source and target HD drive with another things the speed goes down a lot of.

I am using an XP machine to transfer to my ftp server which is running on a 2000 server machine and w/the I/O buffer set to 8kb my max transfer over the LAN was approx 100k. I changed the I/O buffer size to 4kb and my transfer rates exceeded 10000k. Never realized that made such a HUGE difference. Thnx for the info
