Setting to upload as ASCII

I've been trying to figure out how to get SmartFTP to upload files in ASCII mode instead of binary by default, because I'm trying to set up a greymatter blog. I've tried going through help, but my non-technical brain is having quite a difficult time figuring out what to do.

As a result, I've had to use WS-FTP to upload files then use Smart to CHMOD them, because I find SmartFTP much easier to use for CHMODing and pretty much everything else.

Any chance someone can help me so that I can use SmartFTP for everything?

Thank you very much.

To set globally:

"Tools" -> "Settings..." -> "Transfer" -> "ASCII/Binary" -> "Default Transfer Type" and then select "ASCII Transfer Type"

You can also set this as a per favourite setting from "Favourites" -> "Edit Favourites..." -> "Properties".

I hope that helps...

Thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate it muchly.

"tools" -> "settings" -> "ascii/binary" -> "ascii files"

and feed the list with the file extensions which should be transfered with ascii transfer type.

imho the cleaner solution.

Okay, that seems to work as well.

What's the difference between ASCII and binary uploading, anyway? What does it mean to upload as ASCII and to upload as binary?

Thanks so much again.
