As I was trying out SmartFTP, it was freezing for inexplicable reasons. I then downloaded Build 974 and haven't had a problem since (for about two weeks now).
This is a relief since I think this is a great FTP program. The interface is reasonably straightforward and easy to use. This appears to be a program which is worth registering.
