Sorry if this seems stupid, but I really don't understand all of this.
I need to ensure that my password is NOT being sent in plain text upon connection. I know SmartFTP can handle this but I am not sure what, if anything, I must do to enable it. I control the linux server (a Sun Cobalt Raq3) and I did install openSSH on it but I don't know what steps I need to go thru to secure my password. Do I even need SSH? Please note that I am only concered about the password, not the data...although that would be ok too.
Are there any step-by-step guides to doing this? I have found lots of detailed info, but no simple procedures.
I don't suppose there is a written (pdf) manual for SmartFTP that explains all of this?
