Anyone else having problems with SmartFTP hanging up?

Today was the first time I have heavily used SmartFTP at my work. I am evaluating it for work usage. It hung up three times today and would not respond to anything (had to use Ctrl Alt Del.) I am using version 973 with W2k (also with latest Service Pack) on a 600MHz P3 HP computer.

We do have a firewall at work, but it seems to connect just fine without using socks. I am using pasv mode and mostly upload files to a web site.

Before I start spending lots of time troubleshooting, has anyone else seen random lockups?

Yep... Upgraded not long ago in an effort to get rid of a very annoying pop-up "UpGrade" box (mistake #1), then again yesterday (02-18-03).

The "Freezing" Problem has only happened one time today as opposed to just about every time it was used prior to upgrading.

What really bothers me is the amount of system resources SFTP now uses. I can only use it for two or three uploads/downloads/views before it sucks everything dry and crashes.

I've spent many an hour on this board and have yet to see a definitive answer pertaining to a real "fix"... For either problem

I've also used SFTP for well over a year with absolutely flawless performance (even donated $$$ to the "cause"). However, after upgrading I find I now only have 10 days left on my "trial"???

Makes it terribly difficult to justify the $30.00 for a key but, This IS a good application. I'd just like an answer, preferably an application that worked, before I spend more $$$.

Yes, same problem here. Don't know how many transfers before it locks up. Using Win2000 Pro.

I run Windows 2000 SP3 with all the latest patches, and push SmartFTP to the max almost daily, with threads running local on the LAN + remote threads running at the same time as well. I can clearly say that SmartFTP runs very well on a 2K/XP environment. So to sum it all up, the problems you guys seem to face, smells to me more like a system stability issue. Please understand that having your OS up to date, plays a very important factor in a true windows application, such as SmartFTP.

Make sure that you are running the latest SmartFTP development build, and have installed the critical and recommended updates, from the windows update page. This also includes MSIE patches, for example I run IE 6 SP1.

Another possibility to lock up issues, can be an antivirus application running, which scans the data as it's being downloaded, or even certain software firewalls can cause problems, to where applications lock up.

So basically what im saying, leave room open for other possibilties, SmartFTP is not always the bad guy

BTW: epp_b,

You are running a dev. build, from almost three weeks ago, you should know better than this by now 8O
The Change Log thread can always be found in the announcements forum, so please update your OS and SmartFTP.

Sorry, guess I didn't look at the build version closely enough

Yep upgrading to latest developer build:

https://www.smartftp.com/download

does solve the "possible" freeze problems.
