Confused by transfer queue

I'm confused about the transfer queue, and checks into the knowledge base haven't really been much help. Nor have forum searches.

Sometimes I am able to drag and drop files from my computer to my ftp site, and they upload promptly, remaining in the transfer queue for mere seconds. Other times, they just sit in the transfer queue, not moving, even if I hit the blue PLAY button. I eventually get fed up and delete them out of the queue. Is there any way to default to prompt uploading. I don't really need any special transfer functions, just instantly responsive ones. Am I overlooking some secret settings?

Files are transferred instantly. If there is a problem you can usually get the details in the log from the transfer queue item. To get the log double click the item that is stuck in the transfer queue.
