Selecting a large number of files is painfully slow

I have ftp sites where I routinely need to clean out a large number of files. SmartFTP will sit there and count for around 5 minutes while simply selecting ~6000 files. Is there any way to speed this up?

Hello ..

Do you select the files in the Remote Brower's list control (right side)? Is this what is taking so long or after you press the Del key?

I have the same issue. I used the list control window (right side) as well as the folders window (left side) to delete the folders. It takes forever. It opens every subfolder and deletes teh files. I'm sure it takes so long because it's transmitting each delete to my computer over the internet. I don't need an update, I just need them deleted. Solution?

If you mean it takes a long time to delete all the files on the server, that's just the way FTP unavoidably works as far as I'm aware. Out of the many FTP clients I've used, all of them require that each file be deleted on a file-by-file basis, and can't just be deleted in one huge batch by selecting the parent folder like you can in Windows (or any other OS).

That said, hosts often provide a web-based file manager and some of these do seem to allow one-click deletion. I don't think they use actual FTP to do it though as they interact with the server differently.
