How To setup the Bitwarden credential provider
Follow these steps use Bitwarden with SmartFTP:
1. Setup
- In SmartFTP, go to the global settings:
menu: File - Settings - Go to the Credential Providers settings dialog
- Select Bitwarden from the list and click on Properties
- Download the Bitwarden CLI tool (bw.exe)
- Extract the .zip to a folder on your computer. E.g. C:\Program Files\Bitwarden CLI
- Click on the ... browse file button in the dialog. Select bw.exe from the folder in 5.
- Optional: To use an on-premise Bitwarden server:
- Open a command line
- Go to the bw.exe
- Type bw config server https://bw.yourcompany.com - Click on the Log In button
- Enter the login (email) and password in the Log In dialog.
- Wait for the login process to complete.
- Click Synchronize to verify that the setup was successful
- Click OK to save the changes
2. Create a new connection in SmartFTP
- Go to the menu: File - Connection
- Select the Protocol
- Enter the Host
- Enter the Username
- Click on Properties
- In the Login group at the bottom, select Bitwarden in the Provider combo box
- To use an existing Bitwarden item, click on the ... button.
If no existing item is selected, a new item will be created on the next login attempt. - Click OK to save the changes
- Click OK to connect to the server
- Enter the username and password into the Login dialog.
- Click OK
- A new Bitwarden Login item is automatically created and associated with the SmartFTP favorite.
Limitations
- Amazon S3, Google Drive, OneDrive protocols are not supported.
