Runtime Error

Problem

SmartFTP will not start anymore. A Runtime Error dialog box is displayed on start.

Cause

This error can have several causes . The most common one is when the software has been downgraded to an earlier version or when the registry got corrupted.

Solution

Follow the instructions below. After each step try to start SmartFTP. If it fails proceed with the next step.

1. Download and install the latest version of the software.
2. Uninstall the installed version first and then go to step 1.
3. Start regedit.exe. Delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SmartFTP\Client 2.0 registry key
4. Rename this folder "%appdata%\SmartFTP\Client 2.0" to "%appdata%\SmartFTP\Client 2.0 Backup".
