Explanation

OpenFTPD does not accept self signed client certificates. In SmartFTP if you create a client certificate, a self signed certificate is then created by default. Solution (Server Side Only)
You can edit the src/ftps/tlsutil.c file in the openftpd source tree and change the following line:

from:
tls_no_verify = 0;

to:
tls_no_verify = 1;
