How To setup the KeePassRest credential provider

Initial Setup

  1. Download and install KeePass 2 (Professional Edition) if you have not done so already.
  2. Download and install the KeePassRest Plugin for KeePass.
  3. Ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 is installed.
  4. Start KeePass and verify that the KeePassRest Plugin has been loaded. Go to the menu: Tools->Plugins
  5. Open your kdbx database in KeePass
  6. Start SmartFTP
  7. In SmartFTP go to the main menu: File - Settings.
  8. Go to the Credential Providers settings dialog
  9. Select KeePassRest from the list and click on Properties
  10. Select the client certificate you want to use for authorization
  11. Click OK to save the changes
  12. Click the Test button
  13. KeePass is showing an authentication prompt. Click on Yes to allow the client to access the KeePass store.
  14. The test in SmartFTP will now successfully complete

Setup Favorite to use KeePassRest provider

  1. Go to the Favorite Properties (Tab: Tools, click on Favorite Properties or in the quick connect dialog: File - Connection)
  2. In the General dialog, select KeePassRest for the Provider
  3. To use an existing KeePass entry, click on the ... button.
    If no existing entry is selected, a new entry will be created on the next login attempt.
  4. Click OK to save the changes
  5. Connect to the Favorite
  6. Enter the credentials (username, password, etc).
  7. The credentials are now stored in KeePass and will be retrieved from there for consecutive connections

The KeePass feature in SmartFTP requires the Ultimate or Enterprise Edition .
