When I go to Tools -> Update and click on update, it closes SmartFtp and opens the SmartFtp directory and thats it. Am I doing something wrong? or is my SmartFtp not working quite right?
Please uninstall SmartFTP, then reinstall by running the "Online or Full" setup package.
