Until I recently installed SmartFTP version 1.0.976 on windows 89SE my PC was stable and reliable. Every time I start SmartFTP things go wrong. With a single copy of Internet Explorer running and no other program other than SmartFTP just browsing on ftp://ftp.redhat.com or mirrors.blueyonder.co.uk for example causes errors indicating memory shortage (I have 256MB and it is only when SmartFTP has run that this occurs). By strating SmartFTP with no other programs running I have on occasions managed to perform a download without the memory issue but this results a random service crashing.
The effects are very variable but something crashes on my machine invariably whenever I run SmartFTP. I have ZoneAlarm on my PC.
